SPF, DKIM and DMARC: a safe mail setup order

Learn how domain mail authentication fits together, how Servaro automates your DNS records and why clean alignment matters.

UPDATED 2026-11-03
01

Inventory every legitimate sender

List your domain mailboxes, transactional app senders and helpdesk tools before changing DNS. An incomplete inventory can cause legitimate mail to fail.

SPF authorizes sending infrastructure for a domain. Keep one clean SPF record and avoid unnecessary nested lookups.

02

Add cryptographic authentication

DKIM signs outgoing messages with a domain key. Publish the exact selector generated in Servaro Control and verify signing on real messages.

DMARC adds alignment and a policy for messages that fail. Start with quarantine or monitoring, inspect aggregate reports and tighten policy once all legitimate senders align.

  • One valid SPF record
  • DKIM signing verified for each sender
  • DMARC reporting address monitored
  • Redundant MX records published
03

Treat deliverability as an operating practice

Authentication protects domain identity, while sender reputation, content quality and recipient engagement govern inbox placement.

Use the live DNS & Deliverability Inspector on any Servaro Mail page to verify your domain before and after cutover.
